A contractual employee from the district child protection unit in Majuli, Abinash Saikia, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling ₹1.5 lakh in government funds, following a complaint by his supervisor.
Guwahati:In a significant case of alleged financial misconduct, Abinash Saikia, a contractual employee of the district child protection unit in Majuli, was arrested by police on charges of embezzling government funds. The accused reportedly misappropriated approximately ₹1.5 lakh meant for official use.Saikia’s arrest came after Sangeeta Baruah, the head of the district child protection unit, filed a formal complaint. Following this, Garmur police acted swiftly, apprehending him at his residence in Kathnibari village, Kamalabari.Currently, Saikia is being questioned at the Garmur police station as authorities investigate the details surrounding the alleged financial irregularities. A case has been registered against him, citing multiple legal provisions under sections 54/24, 316(5), 318(4), and 336(3) BNS. The focus now lies on collecting evidence to ensure accountability for the alleged misuse of public funds.
