Armed Assaults Target Villages in Imphal West, Manipur

11

Imphal: On Saturday evening, two villages in Imphal West district, Manipur, faced violent assaults from suspected militants, who unleashed gunfire and bomb attacks. In Koutruk Village, under the jurisdiction of Lamshang Police Station, militants targeted Koutruk Ching Leikai and Awang Leikai around 7 p.m. Witnesses reported the use of advanced weaponry during the assault. Local security forces and village volunteers quickly intervened, resulting in an extended gun battle.

Adding to the tension, a drone, believed to be operated by militants from the Bethel area, approached the village, causing villagers to remain vigilant due to fears of aerial explosives. This incident is the second attack in Koutruk this month, with the first occurring on October 16, when militants fired rounds and detonated bombs, though no injuries were reported.

In a separate incident later that evening in Tronglaobi Village, located in Bishnupur district, militants launched an assault around 9:15 p.m. Villagers, alongside Moirang volunteers, engaged in a firefight with the attackers, who reportedly fired from the Geljang and Molshang areas.
