Naharlagun police apprehend Yakub Ali in Assam’s Barpeta district for allegedly running a cryptocurrency scam that defrauded multiple victims, promising high returns on investments.
Guwahati: Naharlagun police have arrested 30-year-old Yakub Ali in Barpeta district, Assam, for allegedly masterminding a cryptocurrency investment scam that deceived numerous individuals. The arrest occurred on October 29 after an extensive investigation into the fraudulent activities.Ali is accused of operating two platforms—Vio5globel.com and the OKX App—where he enticed investors with promises of significant returns through a networking business model. Victims reported seeing virtual profits in their accounts but were unable to withdraw any funds.After amassing substantial investments, which he converted into USDT cryptocurrency via the OKX App, Ali is believed to have shut down the Vio5globel.com platform and vanished. Using a combination of technical surveillance and traditional investigative methods, police tracked him to Chunbari Village in Barpeta.A special police team, led by Sub-Inspector Vivek Linggi and supported by Inspector K Dev, executed the arrest in collaboration with Assam Police. This operation is linked to Naharlagun PS Case No. 81/24 under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.The accused has been remanded to five days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Yupia, as investigators delve deeper into the scope of the scam.
