Guwahati: A tragic fire broke out on Laxmipriya Road in Sivasagar, Assam, during Diwali celebrations on October 31, claiming one life and destroying 11 rented houses. The victim, identified as Shyam Rai, was caught in the blaze that engulfed the residential area near the Sadar police station in Ward 7. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to severe burn injuries shortly after.

The fire, which originated in a densely populated area primarily occupied by food vendors and artisans, was exacerbated by multiple explosions of gas cylinders. This rapid spread of flames led to widespread destruction and chaos as residents attempted to escape the inferno.
