AIUDF MLA Dr. Rafiqul Islam strongly condemned the attack on a Hindu temple in Canada, urging for strict legal action against the perpetrators and calling for dialogue between India and Canada to prevent future violence.
Guwahati: Dr. (Hafiz) Rafiqul Islam, the General Secretary and MLA of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has sharply condemned the recent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada. The assault, which occurred at the Hindu Sabha Mandir, involved a violent confrontation between radicals and devotees, sparking outrage among the Indian diaspora.Describing the incident as deeply regrettable, Dr. Islam called for swift and severe action against those responsible. “As an Indian, I demand that the Canadian authorities ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice and face the harshest penalties,” he stated. “Such attacks on religious places cannot be tolerated, and we must ensure that no one dares to harm a place of worship again.”Islam also emphasized the need for the Canadian government to take the matter seriously, highlighting the rising tension between the two nations. He urged that those responsible be held accountable and face strict legal consequences. Further, he called for greater dialogue between India and Canada to prevent such incidents from happening again, underlining the importance of intergovernmental cooperation in safeguarding the rights of religious communities abroad. This attack follows an increasing pattern of violence aimed at the Indian diaspora in Canada, with many attributing the aggression to pro-Khalistani extremists. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the incident, labeling it as a deliberate act of violence. On social media, Modi stated, “Such attacks, including those against our diplomats, are cowardly attempts to intimidate us. They will not weaken India’s resolve, and we expect Canada to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”The incident underscores the mounting concerns over safety and the rising influence of separatist elements within the Canadian Indian community. Both Indian and Canadian officials are expected to engage in discussions to address the broader implications of this attack.
