JMM Seeks President’s Intervention Over Hemant Soren’s Chopper Delay Amid PM Modi’s Security Protocols
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has called for President’s intervention after CM Hemant Soren’s helicopter was delayed due to security measures for PM Modi, sparking political tensions in Jharkhand.
Guwahati: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has formally sought the President’s intervention following the delay in the departure of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s helicopter, which was reportedly held up due to security protocols surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ranchi. The issue has ignited a political dispute, with rival factions trading accusations. The incident occurred when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the BJP’s co-in-charge for the state elections, addressed the situation. Sarma defended the security arrangements for the Prime Minister, stating that blocking air traffic for brief periods is a standard procedure to ensure the safety of the highest office-holder in the country. “These security protocols, which sometimes require airspace restrictions, are common practice and known in advance to all parties involved,” Sarma explained.Sarma also pointed to a broader political context, claiming that CM Soren’s objection was rooted in election-related anxieties. He suggested that Soren’s attempt to turn the delay into a political issue was reflective of his nervousness about the upcoming elections. “If Hemant Soren is trying to politicize the matter of the Prime Minister’s security, it shows his desperation, as he likely senses a loss in the polls,” Sarma asserted. The JMM, on the other hand, has criticized the disruption as an unnecessary inconvenience and demanded that the President intervene to ensure such issues do not occur in the future. The political standoff highlights growing tensions in the run-up to the state’s elections.
