Centre to Reopen Talks with United Naga Council Over Reversal of New Districts in Manipur

New Delhi:The Central Government will hold fresh talks with the United Naga Council (UNC) to address the longstanding demand for the reversal of the creation of seven new districts in Manipur. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed that a tripartite meeting, involving representatives from the Centre, the Manipur state government, and the UNC, is scheduled for November 13 in Senapati.This upcoming round of discussions follows an earlier meeting on October 11, as the UNC continues to advocate for the rollback of the district reorganization. The Council argues that the creation of the new districts has disrupted traditional Naga administrative territories and undermined local governance structures, which has led to tensions and protests.The dispute dates back to 2016, when the districts were first established, and has been a source of ongoing conflict and dialogue. The creation of these districts is seen by many in the Naga community as a threat to their cultural and administrative autonomy.The upcoming talks are considered a vital opportunity to address these concerns, with hopes that a balanced resolution can be found to respect both administrative needs and the interests of local communities.
