Monduro 4.0: Tawang Hosts World’s Highest Enduro Mountain Biking Event

Guwahati: Tawang, located in the scenic hills of Arunachal Pradesh, is once again the setting for the world’s highest enduro mountain biking race—Monduro 4.0. This prestigious event, organized by the Tawang Cycling Association under the leadership of Dr. Dukhum Magu and supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, is part of the Asia Enduro Series (AES). The race has drawn elite mountain bikers from eight countries, as well as numerous Indian competitors.The event officially kicked off with an inauguration at the Tawang Walkthrough Market, where Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, alongside Brigadier VS Rajput of the Tawang Brigade, flagged off the race in the presence of local officials, sports enthusiasts, and the community.Monduro 4.0 is renowned for its extreme elevation, with the course starting at a remarkable 14,400 feet above sea level and descending to 8,000 feet, cementing its status as one of the most demanding mountain biking challenges globally. Among the competitors are top-tier athletes, including 2024 UCI World Champion Alex Rudeau from France and Nepal’s downhill champion Neerav Shrestha, alongside other internationally recognized riders.In his address, MLA Namgey Tsering extended a warm welcome to the participants, thanking Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the Tawang Cycling Association for their continuous efforts in putting Tawang on the global adventure tourism map. The race route takes participants through historical paths once used by Tawang’s residents for trade with Tibet, adding a unique cultural element to the rugged sporting challenge.Brigadier VS Rajput and Tawang Cycling Association member Dawa also shared their best wishes with the riders, emphasizing the importance of such events in promoting endurance, sportsmanship, and the region’s rich heritage. To ensure riders are fully acclimatized to the high-altitude conditions, practice sessions are set for November 10 and 11, with the main race scheduled for November 13 and 14. Monduro 4.0 is expected to highlight Tawang’s stunning natural beauty and cultural significance, while bringing global attention to this remote and picturesque part of Arunachal Pradesh.
