Guwahati:An imposing 8-foot statue of the legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan was unveiled in Jamugurihat on Lachit Divas, following a grand procession filled with fervor and excitement. Weighing 5 quintals, the statue was transported from Sootea to Jamugurihat, accompanied by a lively procession that attracted a large crowd from the surrounding regions of Chatiya and Jamugurihat.The statue, crafted by sculptor Manjit Hazarika, was carried in a decorated vehicle, flanked by elephants and adorned with floral arrangements. Participants, dressed in traditional Assamese attire, followed the statue as it made its way to the Kanyaka Marketing Society at Shantipur, where it was to be installed after a series of traditional and auspicious rituals.Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika officially inaugurated the statue installation near National Highway 15. The ceremony was attended by a massive crowd, and Hazarika praised Neeraj Nishim Hazarika, the youth behind the initiative, for his tireless efforts in bringing the statue to life. He highlighted that Lachit Borphukan’s unmatched courage and patriotism embodied the Assamese spirit and would continue to inspire future generations to take pride in their heritage and work together for a united future.
