Guwahati:A senior education official from Karimganj district, Sumeru Nath, has been arrested on charges of masterminding a large-scale drug trafficking operation. Nath, who held the position of Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme, was apprehended after a significant drug haul in Badarpur on November 6. The arrest followed an investigation that began with the detention of four suspected traffickers. Their interrogation led authorities to Nath, revealing his central role in the trafficking ring. Sources close to the investigation have indicated that Nath had been running the illicit operation for a prolonged period, all while continuing his duties in the education sector. This arrest highlights the troubling link between organized crime and the local education system in the region.
