Guwahati: A protest by Congress workers against the proposed name change of a district in Assam turned violent outside the Sadar Circle Officer’s office in Sribhumi. The demonstration, organized by Congress members to submit memorandums opposing the name change, escalated when a scuffle broke out between two party workers, Rajan Chowdhury and Kamrul Islam.The workers, representing the general public, had gathered at Circle Officer offices across the district to voice their opposition. However, tensions flared at the Sadar office, leading to a heated confrontation between the two men, which disrupted the protest proceedings.The incident not only underscored growing internal discord within the Congress party but also sparked criticism over the handling of the protest. Despite efforts by authorities to restore order, the altercation raised concerns about the unity and coordination within the party, even as Congress leaders continue to oppose the name change.
