AIUDF MLA Criticizes PM Modi’s Call for Uniform Civil Code, Labels it as ‘Hindu Civil Code’

Guwahati:AIUDF MLA and Party General Secretary, Dr. Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on the ‘Secular Civil Code’ made during his recent 100-minute address in Parliament. Dr. Islam argued that the term ‘Secular Civil Code’ is misleading, asserting that India already operates within a secular framework.He suggested that instead of calling it a ‘Secular Civil Code,’ it should be referred to as the ‘Hindu Civil Code.’ Dr. Islam accused the Prime Minister of using the concept of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to undermine India’s cultural and religious diversity. Referring to the UCC’s implementation in Uttarakhand, he expressed concerns that PM Modi is aiming to impose it nationwide. “India is a land of diverse religions, each with its distinct customs and traditions, which cannot be simply altered,” Dr. Islam said, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s pluralistic identity and respecting its cultural heritage.
