Assam’s new Peer-to-Peer Solar Energy Transaction Scheme allows solar power producers to sell excess energy directly to consumers, promoting sustainability and renewable energy use.
Guwahati:In a significant step toward enhancing renewable energy use and revolutionizing energy distribution, the Assam government is launching a new Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Solar Energy Transaction Scheme. This pioneering initiative will allow individuals who generate solar energy, known as “prosumers,” to directly sell their surplus power to other consumers, promoting a more sustainable and decentralized energy model. The scheme is designed for consumers enrolled in the Rooftop Solar Scheme (RTS), particularly those generating excess energy. Through a dedicated digital platform, these prosumers can trade their surplus solar power, earning extra income and contributing to a cleaner energy future. How the P2P Solar Energy Transaction Scheme Works:Registration: Prosumers with surplus energy, especially those under the PM Surya Ghar initiative, will register on the platform and offer their extra energy for sale.Offer Placement: Surplus energy will be listed by sellers for sale within a single day, with prices regulated within a set ceiling.Buyer Interaction: Consumers, who must also register, can browse offers from sellers and choose which to accept.Transaction Process: Once a buyer accepts an offer, they can complete the transaction via an integrated payment system.Energy Adjustment: The platform will update both buyer and seller accounts, reflecting the traded energy on their next bills.Unsold Energy: Any energy that remains unsold will be redirected to the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).This initiative supports Assam’s goals of expanding clean energy and maximizing solar resource use. By integrating technology, it offers an opportunity for households to actively participate in the energy market while benefiting economically. The project, led by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), is expected to help close energy supply gaps and encourage more residents to install rooftop solar panels. The official launch date and further details are expected to be released soon. This ambitious project sets a new standard in energy innovation, promoting a sustainable and inclusive energy landscape for the state.
