Assam Police Officer Critically Injured in Attack During Anti-Theft Operation in Nagaland

A police officer from Assam sustained critical injuries after being attacked by suspected miscreants in Nagaland during an inter-state operation against vehicle theft. Investigation and security measures are under review.

Guwahati: An Assam Police officer was critically wounded during a vehicle theft operation in Yachang C Village, Nagaland, on the night of January 7. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when a team led by Officer-in-Charge Gangaram Phukan of Teok and Selenghat police outposts, along with Jatin Bora, conducted a raid in the area.The situation escalated when a group of local residents allegedly surrounded the police team, leading to an attack involving sharp weapons. The injured officer was immediately transported to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for urgent medical treatment. His condition remains critical.The violent encounter has sparked concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel during inter-state operations, particularly in sensitive border regions. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation and are expected to reassess security protocols and inter-state coordination efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.
