The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) organized a statewide demonstration on January 8 across Assam, demanding urgent reforms in Bodo-medium education and language inclusion policies.
Guwahati:The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), supported by organizations like Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Samaj, Harimu Afad, All Assam Tribal Sangha, and the All BTR Venture Senior Secondary School Employees’ Association, staged a coordinated three-hour sit-in demonstration across all district headquarters in Assam.A major gathering took place at Bodofa Children Park in Kokrajhar City, where ABSU leaders advocated for immediate action on a range of critical educational demands. The initiative sought to draw government attention to long-standing challenges facing Bodo-medium schools and language policies.The union outlined several key demands:Integration of Bodo language in Assam Judicial Service Examinations.Recognition of Bodo language in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET).Creation of 35 new Bodo-medium high schools.Upgradation of 101 existing Bodo-medium high schools to higher secondary level with teacher recruitment.Provincialization of venture schools under Clause 6.3 of the BTR Accord.Filling of vacant and dropout positions in Bodo-medium schools.ABSU emphasized the urgency of resolving these issues to improve access to quality education for Bodo-speaking students. Leaders called on the government to take swift measures to uplift educational infrastructure and address policy gaps affecting the community.
