Assam: 10-year rigorous imprisonment for trio for smuggling narcotics in 2018
Guwahati: At least three persons were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by a lower court in Assam’s Guwahati on Wednesday in charges of smuggling illegal narcotics.
The trio has also been fined Rs. 1 lakh each, in default to pay the fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six more months each.
The convicts were identified as Ranjan Sarkar, Akash Mazumdar, and Madhu Dey were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for allegedly smuggling a huge cache of ganja in 2018 in the city’s Garchuk area.
As per the NCB, the convicts were involved in smuggling a huge quantity of ganja concealed in the rooftop carrier above the cabin of a truck.
Another accused in the case namely Dhan Boro was however acquitted in the case.
