Assam: 41 rare wild animals rescued from Rangia in Kamrup

As many as 41 rare wild animals were rescued from Assam’s Kamrup district today and two persons were arrested in the connection.

As per reports, the wild animals were rescued from a Fortuner car in Society Chowk area of Rangia.

The animals rescued include 19 wild and two rare monkey species, 18 turtles, and two parrots. However, two of the turtles died just hours after being rescued.

The arrested accused have been identified as Raghu Singh and Karthik, residents of Tamil Nadu. Police said they both are international wildlife trafficking syndicate.

According to reports, the accused entered Assam via Thailand and Myanmar and made plans to transport the animals to several states and nations.

Although these animals were fed, it is recommended that they be sent to the state zoo before any other animals are in danger, based on a medical evaluation by a local veterinary practitioner.

The Assam Forest Department is on its way to bring these wild animals as to the Assam state zoo.

An investigation into the matter have been launched.
