Woman found dead in rehab centre in Guwahati
Sensation prevailed in a rehab centre in Guwahati, Assam, after an elderly woman was found dead in the centre premises today.
According to sources, the incident reportedly took place at the Faith Foundation in Kharguli.
The deceased has been identified as Girija Miri, a resident of Pathsala.
Miri had been staying there for almost two months.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Drug Prohibition Council alleged that the woman was murdered.
Mridula Barkakati, the council’s chairperson, has alleged that the centre lacks a licence and that women are physically abused at the centre.
Meanwhile, a family member of the centre’s owner said that the accusations made against them were baseless.
She said that the woman had suicidal tendencies, so her own family sent her at the rehab centre.
She even made multiple suicide attempts, but her son once saved her.
She said, “I was conversing with the caretaker till 4 am, then I went to bed since I was not feeling well. The caretaker also fell asleep after a time.”
“She found the woman hanging when she woke up at 6 am, and she immediately called me.
We brought her down and tried to wake her up because I thought she might still be alive.
We called the police after realising she was dead when she didn’t wake up,” the family member of the centre’s owner added.
She also said thst she values humanity over all laws and rules, which is why she brought the body down.
