Assam: Man brutally thrashed on suspicion of child theft in Cachar

Guwahati: A man was allegedly thrashed by a group of people in Assam’s Cachar district over suspicion of child theft, the official said on Wednesday.

According to sources, the group of people suspected that the victim was a kidnapper, the mob brutally attacked him and then set fire to his car.

After receiving the information, police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the victim.
However, he was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

“We have filed a case in connection with the incident that occurred and we will punish those culprits sternly”, said the official.

Meanwhile, police also advised citizens to ignore any such rumors.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, officials added.
