Durga Puja is around the corner, and Assam is gearing up to celebrate the auspicious occasion with full zeal.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has decided to pay the salaries of the state government employees from September 29 before the puja starts, This was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Social media.
CM Sarma said that the decision was taken as there are continuous holidays from October 2.
“To ensure unhindered celebration during upcoming Puja season by State Govt employees, we’ve decided to start paying salaries from 29 Sept onwards, since there are continuous holidays from Oct 2. This is in appreciation of their commitment & dedication. We care for our employees,” CM Sarma tweeted.
The auspicious period of Durga will begin on October 1 and end on October 5.
Also known as Durgotsava, Durga Puja refers to all five days of festivities. These five are observed as Shasthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami, and Vijayadashami.
Although it is a very important and well-known holiday in West Bengal, Odisha, Tripura, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat residents also enthusiastically celebrate the holiday.
