Assam: Carcass of gangetic dolphin found in Dongeebeel in Lakhimpur
Guwahati: The carcass of a Gangetic Dolphin was recovered in Dongeebeel, Assam’s Lakhimpur district on Sunday.
The dolphin was found in the waters of Dikrong in Bihpuria.
According to sources, it is suspected that the dolphin died after being attacked by fishermen. However, the dolphin’s back has a deep cut mark on it.
After receiving the information, forest personnel recovered the dead dolphin for post-mortem.
Later, the dolphin was buried by forest officials, sources added.
It may be highlighted that small families of the fast endangered Gangetic Dolphin can still be found in the Brahmaputra’s Jamugurighat and the Lakhimpur district’s Subansiri.
