Guwahati: Woman held for duping people with job promise
Guwahati: Hatigaon Police arrested a woman for allegedly running a cash-for-jobs racket in Guwahati on Tuesday.
According to sources, the woman took money from unemployed people, promising them jobs in the name of the Social Welfare Department under the Government of Assam.
The woman identified as Jeena Begum, a resident of the Six-mile area in Guwahati.
During the interrogation, the woman admitted to amassing a total of Rs 2.20 from several job-aspirant youths, officials said.
Meanwhile, Begum also confessed that in 2020 the woman duped over 20 individuals under the pretence of offering office assistant positions in the social welfare department and jobs in the fourth grade, official added.
The official further stated that, begum also provided fake appointment letters to the victims after receiving the money.
She also circulated a fake list of recruits in the local newspapers.
However, police arrested the woman based on an FIR lodged by the victims.
