Assam: Three PFI members, one linked man arrested in Kamrup district
Guwahati: At least three members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) along with a linked individual were arrested by state police in Assam’s Kamrup district on Friday.
According to sources, acting on a tip-off, Kamrup police launched search operations at several places in the Nagarbera area. Following the operation, as a result, the police team arrested four people.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nazrul Islam, Hafizur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam, and Mominur Islam, all hailing from the Nagarbera region.
The arrested was confirmed by Kamrup Superintendent of Police (SP) Hitesh Ch. Ray.
Last month, the Central government banned PFI, its associates, and affiliates as an unlawful association with immediate effect for a period of five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
In September, Assam Police arrested 25 Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders and activists from eight districts. As many as 10 PFI members were arrested in Goalpara, five from Kamrup, three from Dhubri, two each from Barpeta and Baksa districts, and one each from Karimganj, Udalguri, and Darang districts.
