Child dies of suspected adenovirus in medical college

Kolkata:Five children died at a city hospital from Saturday night to Tuesday morning. The death of children due to fever and shortness of breath is spreading panic in the state.

Two more children have died at a medical college in the state amid concerns over adenovirus. According to medical college sources on Tuesday, one of them was infected with adenovirus. However, the hospital authorities could not confirm whether he died due to adenovirus infection. According to hospital sources, the child was undergoing treatment for heart disease. However, as the child became very ill, he was kept in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) for treatment. The child died of heart failure on Tuesday morning and then of other physical organ failure.

All the five children who have died in the last three days are below the age of two. The child who died at the medical college on Tuesday morning was six months old. His name is Aditya Das. According to hospital sources, the child had heart problems since birth. Treatment was going on as there was a hole in the heart. He has been admitted to the hospital since February 5. He was brought to the medical college on February 23. According to doctors, Aditya was diagnosed with adenovirus infection, chills and colds.

Another child died at the medical college on Monday night. However, doctors said that adenovirus was not found in his body. Although there was cold-cough, fever, cold-feeling. Hospital sources said it was not known whether the child had an adenovirus infection.
