New Delhi: The Nainital High Court had banned the use of elephants in commercial purposes. After the High Court order five years ago, the elephant safari on the back of elephants was stopped at Jim Corbett National Park and Rajaji National Park. However, this Safari will be launched again. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Corbett Tiger Foundation on Saturday.
Uttarakhand Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal, along with forest department officials, was present at Saturday’s meeting along with corbett tiger foundation. Subodh said in this regard that safari will be started on the back of elephants following all the rules and regulations. “The interpretation of each rule may vary depending on the situation. However, if elephant safari is started, it will be beneficial for eco-tourism in the state. ’’
Tourists will be able to experience safaris on elephant backs in The Corbett National Park and Rajaji National Park by April. It has been decided that elephant safaris will be launched in two national parks in the next two weeks.
