Severe heat wave grips several states of the country, Maharashtra records 11 deaths

New Delhi: The country has been witnessing severe heat wave since April. The heat wave has taken a turn for the worse in several other states of the country including West Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a heatwave warning for several parts of India. This includes Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha and the coastal state of Andhra Pradesh. The temperature in Delhi has now risen so much that normal life has been disrupted.

Imd official Naresh Kumar said the maximum temperature will hover between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius in the plains of northwest India and parts of Madhya Pradesh, eastern India. The IMD said the maximum temperatures in many parts of the north-west, east will be 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal. As many as 11 people have died in the scorching heat in Maharashtra. Eleven people died in the heat during an event held in Navi Mumbai in the state. The incident took place at the Maharashtra Bhushan awards ceremony. Thousands of people had gathered at the event. Eleven people died as they could not bear the severe sun. The Maharashtra government has already announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who have died due to heat stroke.
