New Delhi: Questions have been raised in various quarters as to whether widowed women have to bear the expenses of their in-laws. At the same time, the Bombay High Court has given an important verdict. The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court delivered a special verdict when asked whether the parents of a boy can claim maintenance expenses from their widowed daughter-in-law under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The Khandpeeth says that widows will not bear the expenses of their in-laws’ maintenance. No one can force a widow in this regard. The court’s verdict came while hearing a petition filed by the wife of a 38-year-old widow of a man working as a conductor in the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
