Balasore: Two minor children were married off to stray dogs in Odisha’s Balasore to “ward off evil spirits”, police said on Sunday. Tapan Singh, son of Dari Singh, who is just 11 years old, was married to a female dog. At the same time, 7-year-old Lakshmi was married to a male dog.

There are hundreds of people in the country and the world who believe in different types of superstitions and forget the difference between right and wrong under the guise of it. ‘Sing’ bandhsahi village in Odisha too There is a similar tradition among the ‘Ho’ tribals. Here, when the first tooth came out in the upper jaw of their children, they started looking for stray dogs for their marriage.
People of the ‘Ho’ tribal community believe that it is inauspicious to have the first tooth in the upper jaw of children. To solve this problem, people of the tribal community get their children married to dogs. Sagar Singh, a 28-year-old graduate from the village, said that as per community traditions, two minor children were married to dogs and a community feast was also organised. The wedding rituals continued from 7 am to 1 pm. Sagar said the community believes that whatever evil can happen after getting “married” will pass from children to dogs. Although there is no scientific basis for this, this belief has been going on for a long time and this superstition remains in the community.
