New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the frequent internet shutdown in ethnic violence-hit Manipur. The petition was filed by two residents of Manipur. The apex court dismissed the plea but opened the way for the petitioners to approach the High Court.
The matter came up before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Mishra. The judges said a case in this regard is being heard by a division bench of the Manipur High Court. The High Court has also set up an expert committee to decide whether internet services can be restored in the state. The judges said there was no need to hear a fresh case in this situation.
