7 dead, 29 injured as bus falls into canal on way back from wedding in Andhra

New Delhi: Seven people, including a child, were killed when a bus fell into a canal while they were returning from their wedding. At least 29 people were injured. The incident took place at Darsi in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday midnight.


According to police, a bus carrying pilgrims was returning to Kakinada from Podili around 12.30 am on Monday. Witnesses said the bus took a left turn to avoid colliding with a car coming from the opposite direction near Darsi. That’s when it hit the guardwall on the side of the road. The driver lost control of the bus as the speed was high.
Next to the road was the Nagarjuna Sagar Canal. The bus overturned and fell into the canal. There were a total of 47 passengers in the bus. Seven of them, including a child, died. Rescue teams and police rushed to the spot. After hours of efforts, the passengers were rescued and admitted to the hospital.
