New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday termed the tenure extension of Enforcement Directorate (ED) director Sanjay Kumar Mishra as illegal. However, the court has also upheld the change in the tenure of the ED through the bill. The apex court, even after terming Mishra’s extension as illegal, said the ED director can continue in the post till July 31, 2023.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai, Vikram Nath and Sanjay said Mishra’s extension was against the 2021 decision of the Division Bench of the Supreme Court which had asked him not to extend his tenure beyond November 2021.
