New Delhi:The European Parliament had passed a resolution on caste violence in Manipur. This time, India retaliated. New Delhi criticised the role of the European Parliament, saying it was done in a “colonial mindset”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to France. On the same day, the parliament in Strasbourg discussed the human rights crisis in Manipur. A resolution to this effect was also passed. “Religious and ethnic minorities should be protected,” the resolution said. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Such interference in India’s internal affairs is not acceptable. Parliament’s proposal reflects the colonial mentality. ”
He also took a dig at the European Parliament, saying they should spend more time discussing their own internal crises. On Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Katra had termed the Manipur crisis as an “internal” matter of the country. The European Parliament is made up of elected members of the European Union.
