New Delhi: Nine Maoists were killed in the encounter with security forces. The incident took place in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Tuesday. Around 6 am, a joint team of security forces launched an anti-Maoist operation near Lendra village. The contingent included members of the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, CRPF and CoBRA.
On Tuesday morning, police received information about the gathering of Maoists near Lendra village in Bijapur. On receiving this information, the joint forces went out on an anti-Maoist operation.The Maoists opened fire on them during the operation. The security forces also fired back. The encounter begins. The gunfight between the two sides continued for quite some time. After that, everything calmed down. As no further firing came from the Maoist side, the joint forces started advancing. At that time, the bodies of nine Maoists were recovered. Security personnel recovered several automatic weapons, including a machine gun and other weapons, after the encounter. A search operation is underway in the area.
Bijapur in Bastar area is known as a ‘bastion’ of Maoists. As many as 41 Maoists have been killed in clashes with security forces in Bastar region so far this year, news agency PTI quoted police as saying.
