‘People of East India look like Chinese, southern people look like Africans…’: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reacts

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called back Indian Overseas Congress President Sam Pitroda. A recent comment by Sam Pitroda has evoked reactions. In an interview, Indian Overseas Congress President Sam Pitroda spoke about india’s diversity. “India that I believe in is where there is space for everyone and everyone can keep compromising a bit. Earlier, Pitroda’s remarks about the legacy tax concept prevalent in America had sparked a controversy.

Following the Congress leader’s remarks, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the Congress. Indian Overseas Congress president Sam Pitroda’s statement that the people of South India “look like African people, the people of the West look like Arabs and the people of the East look like Arabs”. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X, “Sam bhai, I am from the Northeast and I look like an Indian. We are a diverse country – we may look different, but we are all one. Hamare desh ke bare mein thoda to samajh lo! (Please understand at least something about our country)”.
