One arrested in sexual extortion case in Delhi
The Delhi Police had arrested one person from Rajasthan in connection with a sexual extortion case, officials said on Monday.
They claimed the accused was the ringleader of a gang that used blackmail to extort money from their victims.
The gang would threaten them by showing a video of the victim in a vulnerable position and threatening to make the video viral if their demands were not met.
The arrested individual has been identified as Govind Ram (23), from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district.
“Working against the cyber frauds, under the ‘Operation: Clean Sweep’, the staff of cyber police station of the outer district have busted a case of cyber fraud and arrested one accused person who was involved in sexual extortion fraud,” a police official said.
According to police, the accused was arrested after a case was registered under Section 384 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Outer District Cyber Police Station in April of this year. Sections 120B/420/34 of the IPC were later added to the case.
The victim alleged that someone impersonating a girl sent him a WhatsApp message and communicated with him. They also had a video call, but the victim did not realise he was being duped. After a few days, the caller sent him a morphed video of the victim with a female, said police.
