Assam govt schools to get new infrastructure, says CM

Guwahati: At least 4000 government schools will get the new infrastructure in Assam within 5 years, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.

Chief Minister Sarma visited five government schools in Guwahati, as part of this initiative, to review its physical infrastructure.

“As a part of this, 10 schools in Guwahati will get new buildings in 1st phase, before 4,000 more schools are covered”, said Sarma.

Meanwhile, as many as 1,000 school buildings will be demolished and renovated, CM stated.

The government plans to invest Rs. 5,000 crores in new school infrastructure, and it aims to complete the work within 2026, he added.

The renovation of the schools will include new classrooms in a row on the school premises, playgrounds in additional spaces, and many more.

The chief minister was accompanied by Education minister Ranoj Pegu, Education Adviser to Assam Government Nani Gopal Mahanta and other senior officials of Education and PWD accompanied during his visits to the schools.
