New Delhi: A young man tied the leopard to the back of his bike and dragged it to the forest office. He then handed it over to them. The video of the leopard being dragged to the bike has gone viral on social media. However, forest department officials do not see any fault with the youth.
They argued that the youth had done this in self-defence. Not only that, they also said that the young man did not try to kill the tiger. But it shouldn’t have been brought in the way it was. He has also been advised on how to hand over the tiger to the forest department in such a situation. The incident took place in Bagivalu village in Hassan district of Karnataka. Muthu is a resident of the same village. He went to the farm on Friday morning. As soon as he entered the farm, he saw a leopard roaming there. Panic spread as soon as the news of leopards entering the village spread. The villagers informed the forest department. Villagers claimed that the leopard attacked Muthu before the forest department personnel could arrive. But Muthu tricked the leopard into a trap. He was also injured in doing so. But after trapping the leopard, he tied his legs with a rope. He then tied it to the back of the bike and dragged him to hand it over to the forest department. The video went viral on social media. Muthu’s work has been criticised by many. But the forest department stood by Muthu.
“Muthu had no ulterior motives,” said a forest department official. But the way he brought the tiger was due to his lack of awareness. The leopard is nine months old, the official added. He was also injured in the incident. The leopard is undergoing treatment. It has been kept under observation.
