New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on Thursday night in connection with the liquor policy case. Media institutions around the world have covered this arrest from their own perspective. The American media house Washington Post has written, ‘India arrested the CM of Delhi amid the intensification of action on opponents’.

At the same time, CNN has put the news of the arrest on its main page. Its headline reads, ‘Delhi CM arrested before elections, opposition calls it conspiracy’. CNN as well as the BBC have given the news of Kejriwal’s arrest a place on their main page.
“Kejriwal, who rules India’s capital and Punjab state, is the second major arrest by an opposition leader in recent memory,” The Washington Post said. The post also mentioned the arrest of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren before Kejriwal.

The Washington Post wrote that Kejriwal’s role in the liquor policy scandal is unclear. The opposition has in recent times accused the Modi government of misusing central agencies.

The post also referred to Rahul Gandhi’s press conference referring to the crackdown on opposition parties in India. The post has raised Rahul’s statement in which he said that Congress did not even have money to buy a rail ticket.
