New Delhi: The Supreme Court delivered an important verdict on Tuesday. The court, in a special judgement today, observed that candidates should not account for all their immovable properties. Voters do not have the right to know the information of all the immovable property of a candidate. The supreme court held that a voter “does not have the right to know about every property of a candidate”.
The Supreme Court has said that a candidate has the right to privacy in certain areas. The court made it clear that candidates are not required to disclose the account of every transferable property owned by them or their families. The Supreme Court’s verdict came in 2019 in connection with a case filed in the court by Independent MLA From Arunachal, Karikho Kri (Teju Assembly constituency), in the matter of filing property accounts in court.
