New Delhi: Tourists panicked after seeing Sikkim devastated by landslides are desperate to return to the Padimari plains. The number of cancellations is also increasing. But which way to get down from the mountain? They are lost in that thought. On the one hand, Jonggu, Chungthang, Lachen and Lachung have been isolated by the collapse of the Sanklan Bailey Bridge in North Sikkim. At least one and a half thousand tourists are stuck there. Those who are in Gangtok are also in trouble. Because, due to heavy rains in Sikkim and overflowing Teesta river, Gangtok-Siliguri ‘lifeline’ National Highway No. 10 has been closed indefinitely. Kalimpong District Magistrate Bala Subrahmanyan issued a notification in this regard on Thursday. It has been said there that National Highway No. 10 has been damaged at Melli Setu, Ravijhora, Likhuvhid.

Sikkim (Sikkim) administration sources informed that several areas were devastated by Wednesday night’s cloudy rain, Harpa bun and landslides. At least 6 people have died. Various roads in Lachen, Chungthang, Mangan are closed. Many tourists are stuck here. The administration has advised them to reach Gangtok once the road opens from their local hotel. The biggest danger is that the Sanklan bridge was washed away. In 2023, the Harpa Bane bridge was blown away in the Lonark Lake disaster. After this, with the efforts of the army and the Sikkim administration, Bailey Bridge was arranged there. The newly constructed bridge was swept away on Thursday afternoon. However, the Mangan district police had warned in advance. The bridge is the only link between Mangan, Junggu and Chungthang.
