Assam man arrested for cheating 31 people of Rs 2.5cr on promise of jobs

Guwahati: A 30-year-old man from Assam was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Arunachal Pradesh for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of providing them jobs, an official said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Dipjyoti Das, pretended to be an employee of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.

According to sources, Das demanded money from people by promising them jobs at the company’s Noonmati unit in Assam.

He had duped 31 people of Rs.2.5 crore, officials added.

Meanwhile, police recovered Rs 7.14 lakh in cash and seized property.

The police also seized two mobile phones, seven debit cards, a driving license, a fake identity card of IOCL, and other incriminating documents from the possession of the accused, an official stated.
