One injured in road accident in Guwahati’s Hatigaon

A person has been seriously injured in a road accident in Guwahati last night.

The road accident occurred in the city’s Hatigaon area.

According to reports, the accident took place while a speeding car hit a street light after the driver lost control.

Reportedly, one person who was riding a bike and was behind the car sustained severe injuries after the street light broke and fell on his head.

The car was also completely destroyed.

The identity of the injured person stands unidentified. He was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, locals have alleged that the accident occurred because the driver of the car was drunk.

Drunk driving or driving under the influence (DUI) is a criminal offence in India under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The Guwahati Police often conducts a vigilance drive against cases of drink-and-drive and takes strict action against offenders by penalising them.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also warned citizens that the strongest actions will be taken against anyone caught breaking traffic laws or indulging in drunk driving.
