Assam police seizes drugs worth Rs 1 crore seized, three held

Guwahati: An East Guwahati Police Department (EGPD) from Sonapur police station on Monday seized from a toll gate located in the Sonapur area on the Assam-Meghalaya border.

Acting on specific information, the police team launched a search operation in the area and seized 300 gms of Heroin worth Rs 1 crore from a truck.

Three persons including the driver and receiver as well arrested in this connection. The arrested accused were identified as Hannan Ali, resident of Bijni, Liaqat Ali and Md Anowar Hussain, both from Barpeta.

According to the sources, the vehicle was coming from Manipur and the consignment was most likely going to be delivered in Guwahati.

Taking to Twitter, Guwahati police wrote, “An EGPD team from Sonapur PS intercepted a truck (NL01AF5885) at Sonapur & seized 300 gms of Heroin, ₹47,000 in cash & 4 mobile phones. 3 men, including the driver & reciever – Hannan Ali of Bijni, Liaqat Ali & Md Anowar Hussain, both from Barpeta – were arrested.”
