Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution has been dropped from the CBSE board’s class 10 syllabus

New Delhi: After removing all the chapters related to the Mughal era from the history books, this time the science book has come under fire. Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution has been dropped from the CBSE board’s class 10 syllabus. Scientists, science teachers and experts have joined the protest. In an open letter, they expressed concern over the issue.

The NCERT has recently decided to drop the chapter on evolution from the CBSE Board Class 10 books. Scientists from different parts of the country have come together to protest against this decision. In the letter, the scientists said: Knowledge of evolution is essential for students to develop a sense of science. Without it, their science education will be lacking. Experts have also expressed concern that such deprivation in education amounts to cheating students.

An open letter has been sent to NCERT, a voluntary science organisation in the country called ‘Breakthrough Science Society’. The letter demanded the return of Darwin’s evolution to the cbse board’s secondary level curriculum. The letter was signed by 1,800 scientists, science teachers and experts. Among them are many of the country’s leading education institutions like IIT, IISER, Tata Institute.
