72 dead, 8 missing in Himachal Pradesh due to incessant rains, schools closed in Delhi on Tuesday

New Delhi: North India is reeling under incessant rains. The worst is in Himachal Pradesh. On Monday, the state administration issued a statement saying that 72 people have died in Himachal due to rains in the last few days. Eight are missing. Ninety-two people were injured. At least 100 people have died in rains in the last few days across north India.


On Monday, the Himachal administration issued a statement saying the state suffered a financial loss of Rs 785.51 crore due to the rains. In the last few days, 39 places have witnessed landslides, one cloudburst and 29 harpa floods. Seventy-two people died. The water level of the Bipasha river has increased in Mandi district due to incessant rains. Residents have been shifted from houses along the river to safer places.
Delhi’s Mausam Bhavan said the rains are not stopping in the state right now. Heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has advised the people of the state to stay at home for the next one day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to him on Monday and assured him of all help. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already launched a rescue operation in the state.

The situation in Uttarakhand is also bad. The Weather Service has predicted heavy rainfall till July 13. An orange alert has been issued. In the last two-three days, 34 people have died due to heavy rains and lightning in Uttar Pradesh. Five people were killed in a landslide triggered by rains in Haryana. Three people died in Pinjore and two in Karnal. As many as 730 students are stranded at Chaman Batika Kanya Gurukal near Ambala. The Indian Army has reached the rescue. Delhi is also affected by the rains. Mayor Shelley Oberoi ordered the closure of all schools in the capital on Tuesday.
