New Delhi: Engaging in a homosexual relationship is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. A similar law has been passed in Iraq’s parliament. The government claims that the new law is aimed at protecting religious values. Meanwhile, strong criticism has started to pass the law. Same-sex relationships are banned in more than 60 countries.

Earlier, it was proposed that homosexuals should be given the death penalty. But against European countries and the United States, the maximum sentence is 15 years in prison. It’s not just same-sex relationships, the law also provides for punishment for transgenders. Transgenders or those “impersonating women” will face one to three years in prison or a fine of 7,700 euros (more than Rs 6,86,000).
