Third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024: 60.92% voter turnout recorded across India till 7 pm, 75.01% voter turnout recorded in Assam

The third phase of Lok Sabha elections was held on Tuesday. Voters in 93 constituencies in 11 states and union territories, including Assam, came out to press the EVM button for their preferred candidates. According to the Election Commission of India, there are more than 17.24 crore voters in 1.85 lakh polling stations in the country out of which 8.85 crore are male and 8.39 crore are female voters. About 18.5 lakh polling officers are deployed for smooth conduct of polling. There are over 1,300 candidates in the third phase of elections, including 120 women candidates. The third phase of polling is being held in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Four in Assam, five in Bihar, five in West Bengal, ten in Uttar Pradesh, nine in Madhya Pradesh and in Maharashtra Voting has been held in eleven seats. Prominent candidates in the third phase of elections include Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia ,Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury , former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, Digvijaya Singh , Dimple Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Aditya Yadav. In Assam Barpeta, Dhubri, Guwahati and Kokrajhar constituencies went to polls in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections today. The fate of 47 candidates in the four Lok Sabha seats captured in EVMs. The notable candidates in the third phase of elections in Assam are Bijuli Kalita Medhi , Meera Borthakur in Guwahati.Phanibhushan Chaudhary, Deep Bayan, Manoranjan Talukdar and Dulu Ahmed in Barpeta constituency. Badruddin Ajmal, Rakibul Hussain and Jabed Islam in Dhubri, Jayanta Basumatary and Khampa Bargyari in Kokrajhar constituency. By 7 pm, a voter turnout of 60.92% was recorded across India. Similarly, the voter turnout in Assam till seven pm was 75.01 per cent. Dhubri stood as a constituency where the highest turnout was 79.70 per cent, followed by Barpeta at 76.42 per cent. Guwahati recorded 68.10 per cent polling, while Kokrajhar recorded 74.24 per cent voter turnout. As many as 41 voters were unable to cast their votes at a polling booth in Assam’s Barpeta today during the third phase of lok sabha elections. According to reports, 41 voters were dead as per election commission data. The incident took place at no. 69 ME School polling station under Bhawanipur-Sarbhog assembly constituency.
