Guwahati: A Bangladeshi national, Siham Uddin, aged 30, escaped from police custody at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) late on the night of November 20. Uddin, who had been in detention for illegal entry into India, managed to flee while being guarded by three police officers.Siham had been arrested two months ago in Dhanipur, located within the jurisdiction of Lala police station in Hailakandi district, for unlawfully crossing the border. After his arrest, he was initially held in the district jail but was transferred to SMCH on November 10 for medical treatment due to reported health concerns.Despite the presence of police guards, Uddin exploited a security lapse and escaped the hospital premises. In response, authorities have launched a comprehensive manhunt to locate the fugitive. A detailed investigation is underway to determine how the escape occurred and to ensure accountability for the breach of custody.
