Guwahati: In a landmark announcement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed a 12-day state-wide development festival aimed at benefiting around 12 lakh people. As part of this initiative, the state government will waive loans of up to Rs 50,000 for women borrowers who have taken loans from financial institutions. Those eligible will receive ‘no dues certificates’ from banks during this period.The festival, which is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve social welfare, also includes the distribution of scooters to girl children, scholarships, and bicycles for girl students, along with financial aid for families affected by floods.In his statement, CM Sarma highlighted that the initiative is designed to empower women, promote education, and assist vulnerable communities across the state. By offering loan waivers and other support, the government aims to enhance the overall quality of life for Assam’s residents and drive sustainable development.The program has already attracted considerable attention, demonstrating the state’s commitment to inclusive growth and welfare reforms.
