Meghalaya: Pregnant woman carried for 5 km in makeshift bamboo stretcher, goes viral
Guwahati: A pregnant woman had to be carried in a makeshift bamboo stretcher for five kilometres to the hospital on Monday, in the absence of an ambulance or a vehicle in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district.
The incident took place in Jalilum village, where the community volunteers were seen carrying the pregnant woman in a makeshift bamboo stretcher.
According to sources, the heavily built woman with high blood pressure was struggling with labour pain during the journey but made it to the health centre on time.
However, the woman delivered a baby girl weighing a little over four kilograms at the Community Health Centre and both are fine, officials stated.
Meanwhile, people criticised the administration after a video of the woman being carried on the makeshift stretcher went popular on social media.
